Have You Met Elisha?

  • How long have you been a member of Nela Athletics?
2 years? 3? I’m not sure….I’ve been in and out of the gym due to extended work travel, so I can’t keep track!
  • What’s your favorite Lit Training/Ignite achievement?
Learning kipping pull-ups was a big one, and I really want to get muscle-ups next. I love the rope climb, too.
  • What are three benefits that you have experienced through working out?
Exercising consistently has made me better at pushing past the point where I tell myself I’m out of gas. It’s a constant battle, but it’s always a win to dig a little deeper.
I have learned better ways to move, and have seen how our form in the gym translates into how I move outside the gym (both at work and at home).
I’m an introverted person, but everyone at the gym from the coaches to the other members have been really welcoming and encouraging, and I really appreciate the community. The Zoom sessions have provided a much-needed personal connection in these strange times.
  • How has your life changed since you first started to now?

I feel like I can think more clearly when I’m exercising consistently, and I definitely sleep better when I am active during the day. I’m also paying more attention now to what I eat (and drink), which has been a lot easier now that I’m only eating at home.

  • Have you had any physical changes that you noticed?
My weight hasn’t changed much since I started training, but I have noticed body recomposition — I’ve substituted muscle for fat. It’s been a slow process, but I’m slowly seeing more muscle definition.
  • What is your favorite part of the NELA Athletics experience?
I love the feeling of accomplishment after a workout. Even if the rest of the day is not what I hoped it would be, at least that part of my day was a win. I love being pushed and struggling alongside others, and I realize now how valuable that personal connection is.
  • What are some hobbies or activities you are into besides Functional Training?

I’m a photography nerd, and I spend a lot of time taking photos. I love hiking and walking and just being outside in nature.

  • If you could be in any movie, what would it be and what character would you play?

That’s a tough one. I think Warren Beatty had it pretty good in Shampoo…
